Coney Island Mermaid Parade 2010

Hey boys and girls and boy-girls and hipsters and artistes and guys who like to see a lot of paint covered breasts and Burners who somehow got stuck on the east coast for a weekend and every photographer in the tri-state area and ladies and gentleman of all ages! It's the Coney Island Mermaid Parade! YAYYYYYYY!!!! (imagine Kermit the Frog running around flailing his arms about here).

Belle of the Ball

I do not know this vision of fabulousness's name but I imagine it is something like Senorita Lolita Velveeta Fantastico-Majestico de la Ciudad de la Alphabeta. And the dog's name is even longer.

And here she is at a more contemplative moment.

Personally, I always find that when it comes to accessories, less is more.

The theme of this year's festivities Oil Spill! which provided the artistes with an opportunity to feel socially conscious and less creative types an opportunity to throw together a costume with some rags and a bottle of Hershey's syrup.

This marcher highlights the issue of the massive Hershey's syrup spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

There were some fantastic costumes...

Kentucky Fried Mermaid

What smells like hobo urine?

And breakdancing...

I think my shot was a more flattering angle.

And boobies of all kinds...

So guys are smoking Virginia Slims now? When did that happen?

"A U-Haul!"

And hipster parents humiliating their children...

The curse of hipster parents

And annoying jerks getting in your way so you can't get a decent shot of Lou Reed..

Holy Fucking Christ get the fuck out of the way so I can get a fucking shot of the fucking celebrities you big fucking doofus

And an elephant! And drag queens on stilts! And giant papier-mache phalluses! And an Elvis impersonator in assless chaps! And Brooklyn dudes in their classic cars! Well, I don't have to tell you that I was so over-stimulated I couldn't finish my dinner and ran around in circles 'til way past my bedtime.
